Horice Garner opened a small newsagent in South Street, Eastbourne. In its early days, the shop served as a cornerstone for the local community, offering newspapers, magazines, and small goods. The first home deliveries were done on foot to a few nearby streets.

During the war, Horice’s son, Jack Garner, and his wife, Dorothy, took over operations. With limited resources, they managed to grow deliveries to nearly 100 homes, ensuring the community stayed informed even during difficult times.

Michael Garner, one of Jack’s three sons, bought the business from his mother. He recognised the need for reliability in newspaper deliveries and introduced adult drivers, a decision that set Garners News apart from traditional newsagents relying on paperboys.

William Garner, Michael’s son, joined the company and rapidly expanded both the service area and customer base. By improving logistics and investing in distribution networks, Garners News became the go-to delivery service for newspapers in Sussex.

In 2012, William took full ownership of the business, transforming it into a dedicated newspaper delivery company. With a fleet of drivers and two distribution centres, Garners News continues to provide reliable, early-morning newspaper delivery across Eastbourne, Tunbridge Wells, Crowborough, and Sevenoaks.
